8th Grade Career Exploration
Career Exploration Fair
The 2019 Career Cluster Showcase (career exploration fair) will be held this fall, date TBD.
October 23rd, 2018 was the first time that the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce offered a career exploration event for both middle and high school students.
This one-day event is where nearly 800 eighth grade students in the morning and nearly 200 high school students from both public and private schools in Oshkosh and Omro learn about different careers options from community businesses.
The Oshkosh Area School District and the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce partnered to welcome more than 75 community representatives from 16 different career clusters with representatives from Oshkosh Chamber members, Fox Valley Technical College, UW-Oshkosh, elected representatives, trade unions, City of Oshkosh and Winnebago County.
“The Chamber supports providing students with career exploration as part of the foundation for area workforce development. Having the opportunity to interact with adults in different occupations and learning what type of training and education is required first-hand provides the opportunity for some authentic learning experiences. The number of presenters at this year’s event grew tremendously providing students with a variety of occupations to learn about,” said Patti Andresen-Shew, Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce Director of Education and Talent Development.
This event is made possible thanks to our generous sponsors at the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce, Oshkosh Area School System, Oshkosh West Culinary department for making breakfast and AT&T for sponsoring lunch for all presenters. Special thanks go out to our volunteers from Oshkosh West High School who assisted the presenters.
The Oshkosh Chamber is always looking to further its involvement in career exploration and to partner with other area businesses to offer this great opportunity to high school students. If your business would like to take part in this great opportunity to help further the education of our middle and high school students, please contact Patti Andresen-Shew at [email protected].
