Oshkosh Chamber Releases Business Outlook Survey Results

Each year the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce surveys business leaders in the area to gage confidence levels throughout the business community. This year, despite the ongoing labor and supply chain challenges, there is an immense amount of optimism.

2024 INDUSTRIAL & PRODUCTION TRADES SURVEY

The Oshkosh Chamber has partnered with the Eau Claire Chamber and MRA to commission an Industrial & Production Trades study that is exclusively available to our Chamber members.  What makes this opportunity different than others you’ve seen? Timely results at a low cost to your business. The Industrial & Production Trades Survey (the second of three available) is $195 for new participants (normally $2,399) or $175 if you participated in the first Benchmark Compensation survey. Results will be released to participants in July 2024.

The survey is only open until April 12th. Once the registration form is completed and payment is received, you will be emailed the link to participate in the 2024 Industrial Production Trades survey. If you are interested in participating or would like more information, please contact Rob Kleman, President & CEO of the Oshkosh Chamber at [email protected].

Please be on the lookout for an E-Blast with a link to participate in the survey coming this week!

Oshkosh Common Council Vehicle Registration Fee Vote

On Tuesday, February 27th, the Oshkosh Common Council discussed and voted on the Vehicle Registration Fee (VRF) coupled with Utility fee increases to replace special assessment costs for annual street and sidewalk construction.

In a 6-to-1 vote, the Oshkosh Common Council has voted in favor of adding a $35 vehicle registration fee and increasing the cost of three utilities to fund road and sidewalk reconstruction, which are planned to take effect July 1st. This tax, along with increased fees for water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer utilities, aims to generate $3.75 million annually for road and sidewalk reconstruction. The decision eliminates future pavement-related special assessments on properties from 2024 onward.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT UPDATES

  • The State of Wisconsin’s Business Development Tax Credit Modernization Bill (AB 627) was recently passed by the Assembly and sent to the Senate for further consideration and discussion. The BTC Modernization Bill would change the state’s current program from a job creation focused incentive to a capital expenditure and job retention focused program, eliminating the hassle of creating jobs in a difficult labor market to qualify for the program. The Senate adjourns for the session on March 12.

  • The Business Childcare Tax Credit Bill (AB 660) was recently passed by the Assembly Ways and Means Committee and received a public hearing in the Senate, however, the Assembly did not take the bill up for consideration on their final floor session for the year resulting in the bill effectively being dead for this session. The bill would have created a tax credit for businesses that provide childcare programs or benefits for their employees.
