Our Annual Meeting with be taking place January 16, 2025 at the Oshkosh Convention Center. Part of the evening's program includes an awards ceremony. We are beginning to accept nominations for Small Business of the Year.
Do you know of a small business deserving of this award? Please submit your nominations to [email protected]! The submission deadline is October 18th.
Small Business of the Year Submission Guidelines: - The business will be selected by a committee of the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce and awarded at the Chamber’s 2025 Annual Meeting & Recognition Program on January 16th.
- The winner will be featured in Oshkosh Chamber print and electronic publications, and submission information will be given to the local media for their consideration. The winner’s name also will be submitted for consideration as the “Wisconsin Small Business of the Year.”
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS - Must be an independently owned, profit-making enterprise for at least 5 years.
- Must have fewer than 200 full-time employees.
- Must be an Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce member headquartered in Oshkosh.

55th Assembly District: Republicans Nate Gustafson and Michael Schraa meet in August primary | | |
|
|
The two incumbents will compete in the Republican primary for the 55th Assembly District on August 13th, 2024.
Rep. Nate Gustafson, currently representing the 55th, will face Rep. Michael Schraa from District 53. They are running against each other due to new electoral maps approved in February.
The winner will face Democrat Kyle Kehoe.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT UPDATES | | |
|
- The Oshkosh Common Council heard the first reading of a proposed zone change for 400 City Center during the July 23rd council meeting. The zone change would be done for a new tenant of City Center in the former US Bank location, Extra Space Storage. To accommodate the new tenant and pending approval of the zoning change, renovations to the interior and exterior of the space would be done. The Common Council will take action on this item during the August 6th council meeting.
- In 2021, the Oshkosh Planning Commission approved a project for a convenience store and gas station at 640 N Main Street. During the July 16th, 2024 Planning Commission meeting, the SIP of this project was amended to include different materials to be used in order for the building to match the materials of the future multi-family complex planned for development just to the north. Pending other approvals by the City of Oshkosh, the project is to begin in the Fall of 2024.
- The future Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers has begun construction at 555 S Washburn Street.
JUNE 2024 UNEMPLOYMENT RATE RISES The unemployment rates for Oshkosh and Winnebago County rose as reported by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD).
CITY OF OSHKOSH EMPLOYMENT DATA The data indicated that the unemployment rate for June 2024 was 3.4%, four points higher from May of 2024 but two points lower than June 2023. There were 33,967 Oshkosh City residents working this year in June vs. 34,082 last year, for a total gain of loss of 115 workers year over year. The total labor force numbers in June were 35,172 in 2024 versus 35,349 in June of 2023.
WINNEBAGO COUNTY EMPLOYMENT DATA The Winnebago County unemployment rate for June 2024 was 3.1%, higher than the rate from May 2024, 2.8%, but lower than the June 2023 number of 3.3%. There were 90,795 Winnebago County residents working this year vs. 91,102 last year, for a net loss of 307 workers. Winnebago County’s labor force numbers in June were 93,700 in 2024 versus 94,240 in June of 2023.
WISCONSIN EMPLOYMENT DATA The Wisconsin June 2024 unemployment rate was 3.3%, higher than May of 2024 but lower than the June 2023 number of 3.5%. In June, there were 3,073,900 statewide residents working this year vs. 3,068,260 last year, for a gain of 5,640 workers. Wisconsin’s unemployment rate is still below the national average of 3.9%.

Reviving the PIE Council! | | |

For many years, the PIE (Partners in Education) Council served as the primary Oshkosh forum where K-12 through post-secondary education representatives engaged in meaningful dialog with business, industry and community leaders on programs and initiatives to improve the education experience.
The revival of the PIE Council will help to guide the direction of OCC Education programming as well as strengthen partnerships and collaboration efforts between business and education to create a stronger future for Oshkosh.
