Oshkosh Chamber New Hire

Maureen Lasky, familiar to many in the Oshkosh community, returns to the Chamber after previously serving as the first full-time Downtown Business Improvement Manager in 2010. Lasky's new role as Concierge Coordinator represents a fresh and vital position aimed at bolstering chamber businesses in the realms of recruitment and retention. After taking time off to raise four young children, Maureen is thrilled to re-enter the workforce. She shares, "I've always considered myself a community advocate, and now in this new position, I believe I will be able to use my experiences to help newcomers see Oshkosh as the best place in Northeast Wisconsin to live, work, and play."

Oshkosh Chamber Concierge Program

The Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce announces the launch of its Concierge Program after piloting it for a year.  This is a new resource being offered providing a suite of services to employers to enhance their talent recruitment and retention efforts along with onboarding new talent.  The program is designed to offer thoughtful integration to newcomers, showcasing quality of life and community amenities by way of customized experiences and relevant information based on the candidate’s needs.  It’s the Oshkosh Chamber’s goal to offer area employers a high value program that requires minimal efforts from their Human Resources representative.

ADVOCACY

Untitled design (3).png

The Oshkosh Chamber supports the newly-formed coalition of business organizations from across Northeast Wisconsin called Housing NOW that has launched a public education campaign called Say Yes to Housing!

Like the rest of the country, Northeast Wisconsin is currently experiencing a significant housing crisis. Extensive housing studies have been conducted, numerous workgroups and taskforces have been convened to identify the causes of the significant lack of inventory and the skyrocketing costs of housing. A variety of steps have been outlined to start tackling the problem. However, public education has been identified as the first and most vital step to progress.

The hope is that raising awareness of the housing crisis will increase public support for changes in local regulations and future development projects.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT UPDATES

  • The United States Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded Wisconsin a Regional Technology Hub designation, opening the door for future funding opportunities for the state. The designation comes from the recognition of Wisconsin’s leadership in the field of personalized medicine and biohealth technology – the designation awards Wisconsin with a $350,000 strategic development grant as well as the opportunity for our state to compete for up to $75 million in funding under the federal CHIPS and Science Act of 2022

  • Governor Tony Evers is directing $170 million in emergency funding to the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families to continue the Childcare Counts Stabilization Payment Program through June of 2025. The Funding for the program was set to expire in January of 2024. The emergency funding will help to continue to provide relief to over 4,400 childcare providers across the state and ensure childcare providers can afford to keep their doors open.

  • Under new ownership of The Scarlett Hotel Group, The Best western Premier Waterfront Hotel & Convention Center has plans to undergo a renovation and conversion to a Marriott Hotel. The timeline for the project is to begin the renovation in the 4th quarter of 2023 with the completion of the renovation being in quarter 2 of 2024. The updates involved with the renovation include an improved exterior façade, a larger restaurant, updated rooms, and an “M Club” Lounge for Marriott reward customers. The ownership group will be requesting TIF funds from the City of Oshkosh.

  • The future developments of Mr. Brews Taphouse and the TRU Hotel by Hilton have both broken ground and are well underway on Oshkosh Avenue. Mr. Brews Taphouse will be a 2 story, craft beer and burger eatery while the TRU Hotel will have 4 stories and 90 total rooms. For more information, contact Colan Treml at [email protected].
