BUSINESS BRIEFS

Feyen---rotated-and-cropped.jpg

Wisconsin State Senator Dan Feyen was recently presented the 2020 “Champion of Economic Development” award by the Wisconsin Economic Development Association for his leadership on legislative initiatives to drive economic growth and prosperity in Wisconsin. The award is presented to state legislators who exemplify WEDA’s mission of promoting economic development and who are committed to making Wisconsin a better place to live, work and do business through effective policies. Senator Feyen earned the award for his work on key legislation during the 2019-20 legislative session, including Opportunity Zones legislation to encourage new investment in economically challenged communities across the state.

The Award of Excellence is the highest honor, awarded to work judged the best in the field of communications. TELL YOUR LAWMAKERS TO PROTECT BUSINESSES FROM FRIVOLOUS LAWSUITS

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused thousands of infections and has cost hundreds of thousands of jobs in Wisconsin. While other members of the business community band together to help restart our economy and support those in need, Wisconsin trial lawyers are looking to profit off of others’ tragedy.

Trial lawyers are already spending significant amounts on advertising to recruit COVID-19 plaintiffs to sue Wisconsin businesses. If the Wisconsin Legislature does not act to protect businesses from frivolous lawsuits, trial lawyers will prey upon the businesses – many already financially stretched to the brink – filing potentially bankruptcy-causing litigation. You can help support Wisconsin businesses by contacting your legislators and telling them to protect businesses from frivolous lawsuits.

MESSAGE FROM THE OSHKOSH CHAMBER'S CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

Javad-109 - resized.jpg

Recently there is a lot of talk about racism and police brutality.  As usual the public opinion is split.  Some are quick to pass the judgement on the entire police force; as if they operate like the ‘Borg Collective’ and operate under a hive mindset.  Whereas the others seem to dismiss the issue entirely and describe the issue as an isolated incident; an ‘outlier/anomaly’. No wonder – the issue of racism/prejudice/discrimination rages on in the so-called enlightened societies of the modern day.

In my opinion, this is so because everyone is talking ‘at each other’ and does not have the courage to talk ‘with each other’.  Why is it so?  Very simply …. ‘building is harder than destroying’.  It is very easy to pass a judgement from the sideline or be a spectator and a Monday-night Quarter Back.  Whereas to take on the issue head-on and do something about it may take courage, effort, patience and resilience.…

CHAMBER MEMBERS URGED TO CONTACT COUNTY BOARD MEMBERS

If you don’t want the County’s Health Department Director to have the sole authority to close your business, now is the time to act. County Executive Mark Harris has proposed a Covid-19 Ordinance. The Chamber has questioned the appropriateness of this proposal. Here are various issue statements we have released over the past several weeks on this matter.

We anticipate that the Winnebago County Board of Supervisors will be considering this Ordinance at an upcoming meeting. We ask that you take some time to contact your County Board representative and ask them to vote against this proposed Ordinance. We ask that you remain vigilant by continuing to reach out to your County Board Supervisor.
