Things look different at the top of an organization. The skills used while rising through the ranks or building the company are more about making sure the right things get done rather than doing them yourself; finding the answers becomes secondary to asking the right questions. For many small and medium companies, obtaining executive development can be a challenge. For the last seven years, the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Differentiating Strategies to bring a series of developmental briefings targeting top level leaders in small and medium businesses. We have selected leadership topics other leaders have mentioned as being relevant in the current landscape. These are presented in accessible, down to earth briefings that empower leaders to immediately begin using what they learned within their own businesses. Take the time away from working in the business and invest some of it in yourself!
Session Topic: Communication
Communication is a process that establishes a shared understanding. Being an effective communicator is essential to connecting with others. In times of change, leaders cannot over communicate.
In this briefing we will look at why communication fails and show how we can more effectively establish shared understanding in various means such as in person, virtually, or through email. These simple principles are broadly applicable and will provide ways to immediately begin improving communications in your organization.
Participants are encouraged to bring their questions and challenges. The briefings are structured to be stand-alone but do complement one another. Invite a dialog partner and hold each other accountable for applying what you learn.
